#1
ALWAYS! ALWAYS! Measure and write
down the width first and the length second.
The #1 mistake in ordering custom window blinds is inverting these two
dimensions and consequently the blind is not repairable
and is a
complete waste.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
#2
Measure the exact size of the
window opening,
DO NOT make your own deductions so that the blind will go
inside the window. During the order process you will specify if the
blind is to go inside the window opening, if so the factory will make
the proper deduction for you. If you make a deduction and
the factory makes a deduction your blind may be too small for the
window.

#3
Room locations.
This will be a short description of where the blind goes, for example:
FAMILY#1 or DINING#3 or BED #1. Although this is not critical to the
ordering process it can make the installation go considerably
smoother. When you are measuring you should write down a room
location for each blind. The manufacturer will in turn print this
location on your blind making it much easier to locate which blind
goes into which window. Even though several window may be generally
considered to be the same size they will often have slight differences
in actual size. To have like windows vary in size by as much as ½” is
not uncommon. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you measure
each window. After measuring you may find that some windows are
exactly the same size, in this situation we still recommend to list
and order them separately with their own room location for ease in
installing.

#4
INSIDE
(I/S) vs.
OUTSIDE (O/S) MOUNT BLINDS.
INSIDE MOUNT
- A typically window
blind that is going to be installed inside your window opening is
referred to as an “inside mount” blind. This means that the factory
will make an appropriate deduction on the size of the blind so that it
will fit into the window and operate properly. Generally this
deduction is ½” on the width (1/4” on each side) and no deduction on
the length except for vertical blinds which will have a deduction on
the length as well.
OUTSIDE MOUNT
- Refers to a blind that
is not going to be installed inside the window opening. Basically
this blind is made the exact size of what you order. Generally this
is a blind that is mounted to the wall over a window or on a door or
any application where you want to specify the exact size of the
blind. Often times when you are measuring for an outside mount blind
you may want to add to the size of the blind to allow for some overlap
which may help for privacy. Valances that come with an outside mount
blind generally will have a “return” or end cap. This is to cover the
exposed end of the “headrail” or top mechanism of a blind.
